This classic dish features thinly sliced potatoes baked in a creamy and cheesy sauce until golden and bubbly.
Ingredients
- 1 kg potatoes
- 500 ml heavy cream
- 150 grams gruyere cheese
- 50 grams butter
- 2 cloves garlic
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
Instructions
- 1Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
- 2Peel and thinly slice the potatoes and garlic cloves.
- 3In a saucepan, heat the heavy cream with the garlic, salt, pepper, and nutmeg until warm. Do not boil.
- 4Grease a baking dish with butter. Layer half of the sliced potatoes in the dish. Pour half of the warm cream mixture over the potatoes. Sprinkle half of the gruyere cheese on top.
- 5Repeat with the remaining potatoes, cream mixture, and gruyere cheese.
- 6Cover the dish with foil and bake for 45 minutes.
- 7Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes or until the top is golden and bubbly.
