A dry gravy base that whisks into a glossy brown gravy in about four minutes. Keep the jar by the stove for roasts, snags and mash.
Ingredients
- 150 gram plain flour
- 5 tablespoon vegetable stock powder
- 3 tablespoon onion powder
- 2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 2 teaspoon dried thyme
- 2 teaspoon brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
Instructions
- 1Toast the plain flour in a dry frying pan over low heat for 5 minutes, stirring, until it smells nutty and turns pale biscuit brown.
- 2Tip the cooled flour into a bowl with the stock powder, onion powder and garlic powder.
- 3Whisk in the thyme, brown sugar and black pepper until evenly combined.
- 4Spoon into a 500 millilitre jar and label with the date.
- 5TO USE: whisk 3 tablespoons of mix into 300 ml cold water in a small saucepan. Bring to the boil over medium heat, whisking constantly, then simmer 2 minutes until thick. Serves 4.
- 6Store in an airtight jar in a cool dark cupboard for up to 6 months.
