The creamy, herby ranch everyone actually wants — buttermilk, three fresh herbs and just enough garlic. Better than any bottle and it takes ten minutes.
Ingredients
- 125 millilitre buttermilk
- 125 gram whole-egg mayonnaise
- 60 gram sour cream
- 2 tablespoon chives
- 2 tablespoon flat-leaf parsley
- 1 tablespoon dill
- 1 clove garlic
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 piece lemon
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon cracked black pepper
Instructions
- 1Finely chop the chives, parsley and dill.
- 2Crush the garlic clove to a paste with the salt using the flat of your knife.
- 3Whisk the mayonnaise, sour cream and buttermilk in a bowl until completely smooth.
- 4Stir through the herbs, garlic paste, onion powder, 2 teaspoons of lemon juice and the pepper.
- 5Taste and adjust with more lemon juice or salt — it should taste slightly too zingy on its own, because the salad will mellow it.
- 6Chill for 30 minutes so the herbs flavour the base. Keep in a screw-top jar in the fridge for up to 5 days.
