Herbed Rice Pilaf Jar Mix

Seasoned rice in a jar that cooks into a fragrant, buttery pilaf in one pot. A handy side dish waiting on the shelf.
Ingredients
- 500 gram long grain rice
- 3 tablespoon dried onion flakes
- 3 tablespoon vegetable stock powder
- 2 tablespoon dried parsley
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1 teaspoon ground turmeric
- 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
Instructions
- 1Tip the long grain rice into a large bowl.
- 2Add the onion flakes, stock powder, parsley, thyme, turmeric and black pepper.
- 3Stir for a minute until the rice takes on an even pale yellow tint.
- 4Pour into a 1 litre jar and label with the date.
- 5TO USE: melt 20 g butter in a saucepan, add 1 cup of mix and stir for 1 minute. Pour in 500 ml water, bring to the boil, cover and simmer on low for 15 minutes, then rest 5 minutes and fluff. Serves 4.
- 6Store in an airtight jar in a cool dark cupboard for up to 6 months.
